GOSHEN, Ind. – The Maple City Chamber Orchestra presents “Lamentation & Exultation” on Saturday, March 2, at 7:30 p.m. in Goshen College’s Sauder Concert Hall. The program, which features soprano vocalist Danielle Svonavec, will include Henry Purcell’s Dido’s Lament (from Dido and Aeneas), George Frideric Handel’s Piangerò la sorte mia and Da tempeste illegno infranto (from Guilio Cesare), Wolfgang AmadeusMozart’s Exsultate, jubilate, and George Phillip Telemann’s Overture in D major (from Tafelmusik). Admission is free and open to the public.
A graduate of the University of Notre Dame, Danielle Svonavechas appeared with the Baltimore Consort and Santa Fe ProMusica in performances across the United States, as well as with the South Bend Chamber Orchestra and the South Bend baroque ensemble Fleur de Lys. A private voice instructor, Svanovec has also been on the faculty for Notre Dame’s Summersong and the Madison Early Music Festival. She is a member of the St. Joseph Valley Camerata, and has also served as a cantor and soloist in church congregations, including the televised Mass at Notre Dame’s Basilica of the Sacred Heart.
The Maple City Chamber Orchestra, under the direction of Brian Mast, is comprised of 45 volunteer musicians who strive to bring musical variety and excellence to the Goshen community and beyond. The orchestra performs their concerts free of charge and relies on generous donations from individuals and corporate sponsors for financial support.
